Local Music Rant
4/03/2008
I posted this on Myspace yesterday, and I thought I would share it here as well:
Dear Friends,
I was touched by the nearly 70 Tulsans at my last Exit 6C show. It was an encouraging turnout! The Novachild sound strays far from the standard goth, industrial, synthpop variety prevalent here, and yet my friends have opened my eyes to the possibility of a changing climate in Tulsa.
Aside from online outlets, venues and promoters are my true champions. Without them I have few avenues to share my music with you.
Nevertheless, like many others I have felt the sting of unbelieving venues/promoters who are uninterested or afraid of what I am doing. I don’t take this personally. In fact, this attitude reaffirms that ’what I am doing’ is challenging and unique, and resistance provides inspiration for me to work even harder.
While the world has followed an evolving electronic music phenomenon, our clubs and venues have been mostly stuck on repeat. It is my dream that more Tulsans will discover and support the emergence of IDM, breakcore, ambient, indietronica, and instrumental ’post-rock’ artists that are springing up or have been struggling to be heard. I would like to encourage all of you to discover, challenge yourself and enjoy a new wave of music here in your backyard.
Thanks for listening!
Cheers,
Bruce
