OK Electric 2006 was brilliant.I want to thank my friend
Jake Thomason of Terminal Shock for organizing and bleeding for this great event. In addition, thanks to
Liggett Studios for providing the space and the means. Ultimately, I want to thank
Tim Casey for standing in and filling the mix with his sweet alien guitar. He adds such a dimension to the music and takes it to places I cannot go as just one person. Last but definitely not least, I want to thank
Colleen for playing the text machine, my
wife and friend
Brian for helping me tear down after the performance.
This was an extremely innovative weekend and more will come of it in the following months to come. Check out these pics (click for slightly larger versions)

Another opportunity to see Novachild perform with Tim Casey happens this coming Friday at Club 818.
Mark your calendar. 8.25.06. DJ Nutter spins until about 11PM and then we will play for about an hour and 20 minutes.
Keep supporting local electronic music, folks. A new era for music is beginning in Tulsa, and you don't want to miss it

Here are a few photos of the Novachild vs. TCMX set at the OK Electric 2006 Friday Night performance (courtesy of my beautiful friend Tiph). Click on each for a slightly larger image.
This was a rockin' show. Exceeded my expectations tenfold. We're doing it again tonight after 10PM, but come earlier for the other performers as well. I'm selling my new EP for just six bucks this weekend, and two will be given away as door prizes tonight.
Come support new/experimental/electronic music in Oklahoma. We need something besides a string of generic indie rock bands/cover bands in this State, and all of these passionate performers are playing for free. Give them something in return.

More photos will be posted once I get them from Jake (Terminal Shock). And we will take some pics tonight as well.

It seems
Bush's illegal wiretapping program is now officially illegal. Now they should move to impeach the jackass.
While this is great news for everyone who values their constitutional freedom and privacy, I am yet to be convinced that it is a big victory. Politics in the 21st Century have made me skeptical, and somewhat cynical. At the end of the battle, everyone is just tired.

Novachild is playing at the OK Electric 2006 New Music Festival - both nights. Details:
OK Electric: An Atmosphere of Sonic Innovation
308 S Kenosha, Tulsa, OK 74120
Cost: $7, $5 for Members
August 18 and 19
Friday: Novachild w/ Tim Casey: 9PM
Saturday: Novachild w/ Pauly Hart (& Tim Casey?), 7:30PM
This is a two-day electric/electronic music festival that happens each year. Begins at 6PM both nights. You want to catch this one if you can.
RSVP HERE
Since Tim Casey will be playing his guitar along with me, I thought it 'appropriate to appropriate' one of his songs into the set. You can hear a sneak peek on the Novachild myspace profile (minus the guitar part - that will debut this weekend). Or if you'd rather not mess with Myspace, you can
DL it here from my site.
See you there.

In blogger tradition, I am going to repost an article written by my friend Captain Chambers (who I blogged about in my previous post). This piece about a unique local coffee shop is spot-on accurate, poignant, and necessary. Anyone who practices a creative life in Tulsa Metro is urged to come to Saffron; not only is it a perfect outlet for their caffeinated cravings, but also it carries a special vibe because of the loving and loyal people who give it so much energy. And ultimately because of the headstrong, passionate woman who owns Saffron and gives it 100+ hours of her life every week.
(by Captain Chambers)
The recent discovery (recent as in the past few months) of
Saffron Coffee Food and Art has inspired me, again, with the fact that Tulsa's numerous failings may find redemption, and that a haven of artistic individuals
can exist in the void of what we call Oklahoma. The staff and the owner are remarkable people, and the atmosphere reminds of places in the past that once inspired words and ideas within me. It is what a coffee house
should be, but, unfortunately, rarely is.
Recently, the local independent publication in Tulsa held their annual Best of Tulsa poll, which is usually inaccurate, and history has, indeed, repeated itself! A chain coffee shop (you know which one!) came in at number one. This is Tulsa at its best, denying the local flavor for what is force fed through the mass media driven capitalistic empire...and the hard-working souls of Tulsa's would-be culture and community suffer.
Yet, here you have a young, single Mother of two who owns and operates her own establishment, despite the odds and the obstacles thrown in her way; what do other people do, besides take their overprivelaged hand-outs? The owner of
Saffron is also one of the few people in Tulsa that gets the idea about supporting art. She constantly allows artist and musicians alike, to perform and display their craft without a penny for herself, believing that the art actually brings presence to her establishment. That is why
Saffron is the only coffee house in Tulsa that matters!

A tacky photo of myself reading poetry at Saffron accompanies
this article in the Urban Tulsa this week. You have to obtain the printed version to see the godawful shot of me they published... not that it was their fault I was so unprepared! The article itself is a challenge to we local poets to come together as a force. I'm delighted to consider the possibilities.
I am honored to be the visual ambassador for Tulsa poets in the Urban Tulsa this week, even if I look a bit naff in the photo. I have no working scanner, so you'll just have to pick up a copy. I have a few extras if anybody wants one.
On the subject of poets, I want to publicly announce my delight in discovering another fantastic local poet (filmmaker, beer connoisseur, conversationalist) Captain Chambers. He is leaving Tulsa to pursue a more fulfilling life out West, and with him his significant other, Fae, who challenges my belief that angels do not exist. Bon voyage! I will miss you!
