Abstinence Makes The ...

Hard-on grow stronger.

Perhaps I will be a dad someday. Perhaps I will have kids, and at some point in their lives I will have to explain to them all about the birds and the bees. Perhaps I will sign the little consent form and let them experience the embarrassment of modern Sex Education.

Hell if I will, if it looks anything like this.

Government-peddled abstinence program. Laced with fear, inaccuracies, and a heavy bias against homosexuality. Reminds me of something I read in a George Orwell novel.

Of course, since this is a "Christian Nation," they de-emphasize and demonize the condom, while at the same time promoting abstinence as the best solution. While there is some lingering logic, it's twisted. Because we all know that more poor babies in the ghetto are needed to fight in our ongoing war against... well, just about everything that's 'differnt'.
Every sperm is sacred,
Every sperm is great.
If a sperm is wasted,
God gets quite irate.

(From Monty Python's The Meaning of Life)

No, I don't advocate teenagers having sex. I carry banners for far more serious matters. But as a former sex-having teenager (ah, the memories), I do advocate that people use intelligence in their decision-making process.

Teens are going to do it anyway, whether or not we force a government-sponsored abstinence program down their necks. What I don't advocate is being stupid about it, leaving out vital information and room for healthy debate or preaching fear. When will people learn that teenagers just don't respond to negative propaganda? They embrace practically anything that will anger their parents, because they are trying to find an identity for themselves. It's a natural process, and the more fear and hatred we instill in them, the more they are going to backfire.

I also don't advocate government-sponsored programs that promote homophobia. That's just another word for hate, and it's disgusting. This is the sort of half-baked late-night televangelist bullshit we are going to see everywhere - as long as conservatives are in control. And it's up to US to do something to stamp out this hatred and stupidity running rampant in the world.

So. Make your own choices, have your own experiences. Be smart about it. Weigh the odds. Think of the future. Don't make a decision based on fear. Those will backfire, and you'll have years of mental sorting out to do. Instead, make decisions based on sound reasoning and common sense, and balance your heart with your head.
