Ian Mackaye: Really Cool Guy

Check out this interview at downhillbattle.org.

If people lose their incentive to make music because they're not making money, they're not musicians. They're business people. Musicians don't have a choice in the matter, you gotta make music. There's no choice! It's not a fucking job description, there's no choice!
I caught Fugazi in Norman about 9 years ago. Went with my friend Mark (I really wish you would look me up some time because I'd really like to talk to you). It was one of the best weekends of my life. No 'star power.' No buttrocking. None of that shit. Just a couple of hours of raw, inspired musical bliss. Pure bliss.

The only other show I've seen that compared to the sheer intensity of that moment was the time I caught Negativland during the True/False tour. Those two shows - and the inspiration they created in me - have made life something better than it was before. Both bands have had a major influence on my approach to creativity.

Would do anything to see Fugazi in Oklahoma again.
