HELP MY DRIVE-IN WIN!!!!

Hampton Landmarks is holding a contest where they will spend 20 grand to refurbish a ‘hidden landmark.’ The only surviving drive-in theater in my home town (Admiral Twin) is one of two contenders.

The Admiral Twin has a long history of family entertainment, and I spend at least a dozen weekends there each summer. The joy of sitting in the open air under the stars watching movies is one of my favorite pastimes, and it's a dying tradition. The Twin is looking fairly shabby these days, as the drive-in industry isn't exactly a moneymaker. In fact, nearly ALL of the ticket sales at a drive-in go back to the movie industry, and 90% of the theater income is based on concession sales!

I’m urging everyone to vote for Admiral Twin in the contest.

You can vote every day until March 31st. Please do what you can, because it's just got to win! If you know others who may help, please email this blog entry to them. If you have a blog, please post this plea in your blog for all to see. If you have a web site, please link to my blog entry if you wish.

Vote early, vote often, and may the best landmark win.

Trivia Tidbit: The Admiral Twin Drive-In Theatre was a setting for Francis Ford Coppola's 1982 movie, "The Outsiders".

This is great! Nice to hear from you Alexis, and I'm glad you found my little outpost on the net. If I only knew how to get more people involved. But I have a feeling it's going to win anyhow. A bridge is a bridge, but a drive-in theather has magic all its own.

Posts like yours make all of this worthwhile. It's been awhile since I've opened my eyes to good news. Thanks for sharing.
