Three years ago, Novachild and Diegesis Freak cooked up some interesting music for the 24-Hour Project. Armed with a Pogoplug (v 1), ample bandwidth and prodigious levels of bean juice, we cranked this out in about 7 hours.
I found this on archive.org searching through old versions of novachild.com. Been looking for a few of these poems for a long while, but the hard copies have long since disappeared. Without further interruption.....
The Body - 8-29-94
The brain is machine a creaking leaking torture device floating in smoke signals
The leader of the feet I dream Symbols float down and determine what dreams are scrolling to the body
a tower a river an ocean
a valley a hollow oak limb
The hands do what they can to break rules and boundaries before they are tied back What the arms can't reach the feet kick dirt upon The body tries to grasp the mind is together, they travel through the vortex becoming alien returning to the ocean at death

It's the "Angel Oak," found in John’s Island, South Carolina, and it's estimated to be over 1400 years old.
I visited the sad tree with my family in the mid-80s, having the good fortune of residing in Ladson, SC at the time (close to the home of my Cherokee ancestors in NC). I recall the park surrounding the tree sporting rusty playground equipment, and the tree branches were supported by struts rather than be allowed to break or touch the ground and rot.
The land owners charged $5 to see it (the new owners apparently do not charge), and I must say the experience left a sort of breathless/pathetic impression upon me, as if the tree were begging to be allowed to die, in a sense, but man was fighting to preseve it. Hurricane Hugo took care of some of that in 1989, but it is reported that the tree has recovered from the damage.
The Angel Oak made it into a poem I wrote as well. I should post it when I find it. Meanwhile, here’s the link to the official web site: http://www.angeloaktree.org/
Here’s a fun minimal IDM track I made for the Weary Demons EP and later scrapped. Not really sure why. Perhaps it just didn’t compliment the other tracks. In any case, enjoy, share, comment!
2011 marks 10 years of the Novachild project. To celebrate, I’ll be posting some rare/unreleased tracks from time to time. Some may even be remixes, but very likely I will allow time to be heard and avoid ‘fixing’ these old mixes as much as I can.
Here’s an ambient piece I wrote in 2001. Enjoy, share, comment!
To put it bluntly, we’re on hiatus. Or, should I say I'm the last remaining member? In any case, we're doing different things now.
Novachild is my endless project, so no worries there. I'm about 2 release a new album. Jonas is working on a duo. Ransom is playing with other bands. James is building a new sound with friends, which may be recorded this Summer in my studio.
All is well, and I do have about 60 shirts left over if anybody wants one. :) Plus a few CDs and merch. Need to figure out what to do with them.
My wife and I encountered this wonderful Art Van last summer while searching for good coffee. Music by myself (Novachild) and Tim Casey on guitar.
It was created by the late Ernie Steingold of Burbank, CA. Visit this page for a full-frame photo of the van, with smiling creator, as well as detailed information.
